The Mercedes-Benz and Porsche collaboration produced the 500E, a hand-built vehicle manufactured from 1990 to 1994. Each unit underwent a meticulous process, involving transportation between the Mercedes-Benz facility and Porsche's Zuffenhausen plant, requiring 18 days for completion. The E500 Limited featured a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine, sourced from the 500 SL sports car, along with its braking system. Later 1993 and all 1994 models incorporated the larger front brakes from the 600 SL. Dubbed a "Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" by automotive journalists, the E500 Limited showcased exceptional performance, achieving 0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and a top speed of approximately 280 km/h.
In the 1994 model year, Mercedes-Benz introduced the E 500 Limited edition. Initially planned as a limited production run of 500 units, Mercedes-Benz ultimately produced 951 vehicles in 1994 and into 1995. The E 500 Limited was identified by the internal code "958". This model featured upgraded trim, including a distinctive patterned leather on the seat inserts, steering wheel, and gear shift; exclusive bird's-eye maple wood trim on the dashboard, doors, and center consoles; 17" EVO-II alloy wheels; a lowered ride height compared to standard E 500 models; custom floor mats; and a leather-bound owner's manual. Three seat insert leather colous—grey, green, or red—were offered to customers.
This low mileage example (64, 000 miles/ 103, 000 km) was imported in 2015 from Japan and since then it has a comprehensive service history. Recent work includes new brakes and discs, a new suspension arm, ball joints, bushings, AC compressor, and a new timing chain (September 2024). This addressed a known issue with these cars—broken timing chain guides. Other preventative maintenance performed at the same time included seals, sump gaskets, cylinder head gaskets, coolant thermostat/ water pump, drive belt tensioners and pulley, AC pump refurbishment, and a new AC drier.
The gearbox also received service, with a new filter, gaskets, and fluid.
A full service was completed in September 2024, including engine oil and filter replacement, new spark plugs, power steering fluid, and engine coolant.
The car has received excellent care from 2015 to 2024, with approximately £16, 000 spent on maintenance.
This limited-edition model is in excellent condition and is becoming increasingly rare, particularly with a comprehensive maintenance and service history, which this vehicle possesses.,
